The games industry is currently navigating its most transformative shift since the move from 2D to 3D graphics — and it’s being driven by AI agents.

Two years ago, we introduced the concept of Living Games with generative AI. This week at the annual Game Developers Conference (GDC), we’re showcasing how simple AI assistance is moving toward fully autonomous agentic games, freeing developers to focus on delivering unforgettable gameplay.

These aren’t just lessons for game studios. The games industry is providing the blueprint for how many different industries can potentially handle AI at scale. For example, the same intelligence loop used to power a complex in-game virtual economy could be used by grocers to run agents across local inventory and its full store network.

To help all of our customers seize the potential of agentic AI, Google Cloud offers a unified AI stack — the infrastructure, frontier models, and platforms to quickly move from experimentation to deployment. By also integrating Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and Cloud Spanner with Vertex AI into this stack, we’re helping create a virtuous loop between high-performance gameplay and real-time intelligence. At GDC, we’ll demonstrate how our collaborative ecosystem empowers gaming developers to:

  • Enhance developer experiences: Using Google Cloud AI tools, developers can automate repetitive tasks like playtesting and code generation — driving down cost pressures that have surged 90% since 2017.

  • Transform play: Gaming developers can also meet rising player expectations for worlds that feel "alive" through agentic AI frameworks that create responsive, sentient environments.

  • Protect IP: Developers can turn player data into fresh content faster, while protecting their intellectual property. With Google’s industry-first, two-pronged indemnification, gaming developers are covered in both their training data and generated outputs.

Agentic games represent a massive opportunity for studios to reclaim their most valuable asset: creative time. It’s not just a concept — it’s being built by our customers and partners today, including gaming shops like 10Six Games, Antstream Arcade, Dreamlands, and others (below).

10Six Games: Personalized real-time storytelling

Led by creative veterans from Rockstar, Aardman, and 2K, 10Six Games is redefining player agency with its upcoming action roguelite, YOU vs Zombies, slated for release in Summer 2026. Through a core feature called "The Ritual," players describe a hero—such as a “fire-breathing ballerina”— triggering simultaneous calls to Google’s Gemini models. Using custom LoRAs (low-rank adaptation) trained on the studio’s art style and sardonic tone, every asset is rooted in human design, but shaped by the player.

This intelligence loop is powered by Cloud Functions for serverless orchestration and Cloud Storage for global asset delivery.

AI is not a replacement for human creativity — we don't use it to write our games from the ground up. Instead, we taught Gemini how we write to help turn our creative visions into reality. This isn’t AI generating a game; it's AI working to our rules and taking a player's wild ideas then weaving them into our hand-crafted world. This level of hyper-personalization in games was impossible before now. With Google Cloud and Gemini, we’ve built our Infinity Platform; a technical foundation that turns player imagination into immediate, playable reality, ensuring every apocalypse feels uniquely personal.

Atlas: Multi-Agent AI for 3D Production

Atlas, an agentic 3D-content creation platform designed for professional game studios, recently announced the launch of its multi-agent AI system within Atlas AI Studio. This introduces AI agents capable of building and operating complete 3D production workflows for game studios, and is now available globally on Google Cloud Marketplace. Atlas AI Studio’s agent-driven approach allows developers to describe complex creative and technical goals in natural language while the system autonomously assembles and operates intricate pipelines — spanning generation, segmentation, optimization, and texturing — directly within Unreal Engine and Unity.

The platform is built entirely on Google Cloud’s infrastructure and uses Vertex AI for model orchestration, providing the robust compute foundation necessary to move AI out of the lab and directly into the production line. By leveraging this unified AI stack, Atlas enables studios to scale the creation of game-ready content by chaining dozens of complex operations into a single, automated workflow.

"The games development industry has been stuck in a paradigm where AI means 'type a prompt, get an output.' That's useful for exploration, but it breaks down in production," said Ben James, founder of Atlas. "Real pipelines chain dozens of operations together. Our agents build those pipelines for you, based on how professional studios actually ship games.”

Dreamlands: From description to 3D world in minutes

Dreamlands is an AI world-creation platform that lets anyone describe a 3D environment in their own words and receive a complete world in minutes. Built by a team from Ubisoft, Unity, and Meta, Dreamlands was born from a core belief: game creation has become too fragmented, too technical, and too slow. Dreamlands brings the entire process into one place — from research and concept art, to 3D generation, to building complete worlds—so creators can prototype ideas faster than ever before.

Now available on Google Cloud Marketplace, Dreamlands uses Vertex AI to orchestrate a complex pipeline spanning research, concept art, and textured 3D mesh generation. The platform uses Google’s Gemini models to research architectural authenticity and think spatially, while delivering rapid iterations. This agentic approach allows studios to prototype ideas that once took months and $100,000 for a fraction of the cost, exporting directly to popular engines like Unity and Unreal.

"We spent years trying to solve the world-building problem with traditional tools. Gemini gave us something we never had before: a creative partner that understands context, researches authenticity, and thinks spatially. Dreamlands isn't just built with Gemini; Gemini is the reason Dreamlands exists," said Thomas Tobin, Founder, Dreamlands.

Élisa Interactive: Instant 3D world building on Roblox

Élisa Interactive provides an AI-assisted plugin that accelerates 3D level design by 50x, reducing typical scene-building tasks from 17 minutes down to less than 20 seconds. By concentrating on the rapidly expanding world of user-generated content (UGC), Élisa empowers a new generation of creators to build high-fidelity interactive environments on Roblox. Through an interactive, conversational workflow powered by Gemini’s multimodal reasoning and Vertex AI, Élisa allows players and would-be creators to autonomously assemble complex 3D scenes in real-time. This chat-to-3D world technology lowers the barrier to entry for the Roblox community, transforming players into world-builders and helps studios reallocate effort toward high-value creative work.

This agentic assistant automates asset placement and collision handling natively using a creator’s existing libraries, ensuring an IP-safe environment where no "AI footprint" is left in the final game. This workflow empowers non-technical creators to explore design variants in-engine, effectively automating the "manual clicks" of game dev so teams can get to the fun fast.

“Google Cloud has been an incredible technology and business partner, helping us bring chat-based design workflows to the forefront of the UGC movement. With Vertex AI and Gemini, we’re able to scale securely with creators worldwide — from AAA studios to the next generation building the future of play on Roblox,” said François Bélanger, Co-Founder, Élisa Interactive.

Parallel Colony: The first AI-first survival simulation

Parallel is using Google Cloud’s AI stack to power Colony, a survival simulation that introduces a new category of "conscious play." Unlike traditional simulations, Colony pairs players with autonomous AI agents powered by Gemini that act as true digital partners. These agents maintain their own persistent memories, personalities, and evolving ambitions, continuing to socialize and gather resources even while the player is offline. To support this world that never "turns off," Parallel uses Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Cloud Run, and Cloud Functions to provide the scale and low latency required to run thousands of concurrent, unique digital lives.

Beyond agentic behavior, Parallel expands player agency with a real-time generative crafting engine powered by Nano Banana. This allows players to turn natural-language ideas into original concepts that are fabricated into high-fidelity 3D assets in real-time. By integrating these generative workflows directly with Google Cloud’s high-performance infrastructure, Parallel is building an evolving sci-fi ecosystem — including its flagship Parallel TCG — where player intent and autonomous AI meet in a truly "living" world.

“Google Cloud’s AI stack didn’t just make us faster, it let us build something that didn’t exist before: a living simulation. In Colony, player intent, generative creation, and autonomous agents meet in a world that keeps evolving long after you log off,” Sascha Mojtahedi, CEO, Parallel Studios.
